What’s next?

So here’s a quick look at what’s coming:

  1. Highland Abduction- Book 2 in The Band of Cousins-David’s story is here! I’m excited to keep the cousins moving along.
  2. Highland Retribution-Book 3 in The Band of Cousins-Braden and Cairstine’s story is moving right along. I’m on my first round of edits. I plan to release this novel in early June for your summer reading pleasure!
  3. My release in August will be the third book in the trilogy I’m working on with Emma Prince and Cecelia Mecca. I am loving working with these two wonderful writers! I did a recent poll where I asked readers what else they would like to see me write and quite a few asked for a time-travel novel. You’re going to get your wish! This is a time-travel novel set in Scotland.
  4. Sometime in October will probably be the 4th book in The Band of Cousins. I’m not sure, but I think this will be Gavin’s story.
  5. The last in 2018  should be the next in The Soulmate Chronicles.

That’s it! It’s going to be a GREAT year!

One Busy Spring!

Life has been busy this Spring as I simultaneously work on completing the second and third books in my latest series, The Band of Cousins. But in just a few short weeks I will be releasing book #2 in this series. Are you ready to see the cover for David Drummond’s story, Highland Abduction? Here it is!

I will release this to Amazon and KU by April 10th. Now, I’m trying to get it to you before then, but it will be no later than the 10th. I tried to tie the cover to his father’s cover (My Desperate Highlander). What do you think?

No pre-orders as I am going day to day with this book. Thank you for your patience and as always, thank you for reading!

Is The Band of Cousins really a new series?

Here are my five reasons why I decided to make The Band of Cousins a different series:

  1. So the cast of characters will not be overwhelming for new readers. One of the complaints I often receive is that I have too many characters in my books. Huge casts of characters can often cause confusion for a reader. You won’t be visiting the entire clan in one book, though certain favorites will pop up occasionally.
  2. New life, new purpose. I wanted to focus on these seven characters: Maggie, Gavin, Gregor, David, Connor, Roddy, and Braden. I want to focus on how they work together toward a common goal instead of the usual skirmishes.
  3. Build on their strengths. You know the characters. They will come into their own if they step away from their famous families.
  4. To build another core couple. My readers are pretty much in agreement that their favorite couple is still Alex and Maddie. After 25 books, that is amazing. 🙂 But I wanted to take a shot at making another couple as strong as the first. Enter Maggie Ramsay and Will, the Wild Falconer. What do you think?
  5. Similarities. It will be a challenge to bring each of the seven characters to adulthood. I still have the best readers in the world, and they love my characters. I couldn’t dismiss the ones growing up. Of this group, five of them are within a year of 18. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? I thought so!

So a little of the old, and a lot new…that’s my goal.

Happy reading!

Yay for 2018!

I thought I’d let you know what my plans are for 2018.

Unfortunately for my readers, I’m not one of those organized people who can be sure of my schedule, so I don’t do pre-orders. I know readers prefer them, but I can’t seem to pin down everything I need to in order to plan a pre-order date. It takes two rounds of edits, three proofreaders, and formatting before I can get the final version uploaded to Amazon. Knowing how fast they will finish is something I cannot predict.

So sorry, but no pre-orders for 2018 either… 🙁

Here are my plans for 2018:

  1. The release of Highland Vengeance, Maggie’s story, and the first of my new series, Band of Cousins. She’s found the most magnificent hero, and I think you’ll love him. This will be released in the second half of January.
  2. The second in the Band of Cousins will be David’s story, son of Micheil and Diana.
  3. Sometime next year, I plan the second in the Soulmate Chronicles.
  4. I also will release one book in a secret trilogy that is yet to be revealed. I am REALLY excited about this book because it will be a collaboration with two of your favorite authors.
  5. I suspect the other two releases will be #3 and #4 in the Band of Cousins series, as yet unnamed. I suspect Braden, Brodie and Celestina’s son, to be one of them. Not sure who the other one will be yet.

That’s it! Six releases planned for 2018 and a new series.

Hope you’ll follow along, and I wish you a world of happiness in 2018!

Cover reveal for Loki’s Christmas Story

I’m so excited to bring you Loki’s Christmas Story! This was a last minute venture, but I loved every minute of writing it. It’s a fanciful tale of how some of the most loved Christmas traditions  could have started.  Here’s the blurb:

Loki Grant has never been happier. The winter solstice is almost upon Castle Curanta, his wife is carrying their second babe, his sons are a constant joy, and his new clan is slowly but surely growing. So why is he being kept awake by a recurring dream of an old man in furs? When he discovers his adopted son, Kenzie, is dreaming of the same man, the two embark on a voyage to find him.

After his mother’s death, Fergus MacNicol has felt restless and out of sorts. When Loki and his son pass through Grant land on their way to Ayr on a mysterious mission, he’s driven to go with them. Something tells him this is the path that will lead him to his destiny—the woman who has filled his waking thoughts and his dreams for many moons.

When the group arrives in Ayr, they will meet Bor, the very man who’s filled Loki and Kenzie’s dreams. Bor’s surprising message will change their lives and give them a new understanding of the meaning of family and the solstice holiday.

Look for it November 24th, Black Friday!

Enjoy!

Is Bethia really the end of the Grant and Ramsay saga????

Absolutely not!

After writing twenty-two full-length novels, I find I have a pattern to my writing. After I write three additions to the Grant and Ramsay family saga, I need to take a wee step away from them.

I adore these two clans, but I need to refresh my muse!

Sometimes, my muse calls for a Summerhill novel, sometimes it’s something completely different (Trusting a Highlander), but I pay attention to that muse. My writing suffers if I’m not in love with the story I’m trying to tell.

So next up is Lauren Grant’s story in the Summerhill series.

After that, I’m hoping to squeeze in a couple of novellas, though the topics are a secret.

After the novellas will be the start of my new series. I’ve decided to take a group of seven from The Highland Clan and give them their own series (Maggie, Connor, Roddy, Braden, Gavin, Gregor, and David). They will join forces against a common enemy and travel together. You’ll see. If I say anything more, I’ll give too much away, and I don’t want to ruin the fun! 😉 Maggie’s story will be the first one of this series, and I’m already very excited about it. You will LOVE the hero I have bouncing around in my mind!

When I finish with that group, then it will be time to return to The Highland Clan. And you never know. Someday, you could see another installment to the Clan Grant series.

Just for fun, here are five more reasons why the Grant and Ramsay family saga will never come to an end:

  1. Kenzie—I know how much you are all looking forward to his story. He has a few years to grow up yet.
  2. Jennet—Oh, I am so looking forward to writing this story. I will have fun with this wee lass. I can’t wait! But she also must grow up.
  3. Brigid—Logan’s baby. Need I say more?
  4. Elizabeth—Alex and Maddie’s baby before wee Maeve came along. She’s a quiet lass, much like her mother.
  5. Rest your hearts because Alex Grant is indeed immortal.

Happy reading!

The best reasons to attend the RWA conference

Now that I’ve sent novel #22 off to my dear editor, I can finally reflect on the wonderful week at #RWA17

Why go? Here’s why I’m glad I attended RWA 2017 in Disney World, Orlando.

  • I met the most wonderful readers—Connie, Jennifer, Tricia, Dee, Tammy, and many more. When a reader tells you they love your books so much they’ve read every last one of them, it makes sitting up at 1:00 a.m. to get the ending of your latest creation (Bethia) just right sooo worth it
  • Catching up with other writers.
  • Meeting new friends.
  • In Disney World, even the flowers are magical!
  • There’s nothing better than spending a couple of hours after dark laughing and sharing knowledge about Medieval times, especially when it’s with fellow writers Emma Prince and Cecelia Mecca. At Epcot, no less!
  • Every day, I’m reminded of why I love this job. Talking about heroes and heroines, villains, character arcs, and plotting energizes me. I love delving into the craft of writing.
  • Attending workshops was a blast! Since I was once a math teacher, it’s no surprise to anyone that I love numbers. Thanks, Data Guy, for putting on my favorite workshop on writing series.
  • Conferences often give way to new and exciting ideas for future projects. Some authors plan by the calendar year, but I find it more helpful to do so after I’ve gone to two summer conferences. All the creative juices and marketing tips are flowing. I’m so motivated!
  • The fireworks. You did hear me say Disney World, didn’t you? Did I mention we were a stone’s throw away from Epcot? IMG_0502

Can’t wait until next year!

What to love about Kyla

My wonderful editor, Angela Polidoro, used the word ‘epic’ to describe Kyla’s story. Why? Well, I can only guess, but I’ll tell you why I love this story.

Kyla’s story is about young love, but it’s about so much more. Here are five more things you’ll find in Kyla:

  1. It’s about family. Aye… It’s about loving your family, losing a family member, supporting each other during tough times, and still being able to laugh together.
  2. It’s about the honor of a Highlander. For those of you who love Highlanders the way I do, this is a story that celebrates them and reminds us of why we love them so. You’ll see (and feel) the pride of your clan and their allies as they band together to defeat a common enemy, the reward of years of hard work, and why good will triumph over evil.
  3. It’s about a strong woman or two, maybe three. You’ll watch a young lass new to womanhood struggle to protect her family, and risk everything to save someone she hardly knows. You’ll also get a new understanding of someone you have loved to hate.
  4. It’s about a young man who struggles to understand where he belongs, who has to come to terms with his mistakes and fight for the woman he loves.
  5. It’s not just about Kyla and Finlay. It’s also about Alex and Maddie; Jake, Jamie, and Connor; Nicol and Inga; Fergus; Logan and Quade Ramsay; Torrian and Kyle; Loki and Kenzie; Sorcha and Cailean; Gracie…you get the idea. And it’s about the young ones coming into adulthood: Gavin, Gregor, Roddy, Braden, Connor, Daniel, and Maggie.

I promise you’ll fall in love with Kyla and Finlay, and fall in love with Alex and Maddie all over again. You’ll also see many of your old favorite characters, and get to know the youth of the clans better.

Kyla is epic because it encompasses so many of the Grants and Ramsays you’ve grown to love…

I hope you enjoy it!

About that cliffhanger…

I’ve had readers refer to the endings of many of my novels, most recently Sorcha, as cliffhangers.

Does Sorcha’s story have a cliffhanger?

In a sense, yes. But I don’t want new readers to think that nothing is settled in the story.

Here’s how I view it.

Sorcha’s story is about a villain threatening her life and the big braw warrior who protects her. Will you find out who the villain is before the end of this story? Will this thread and all its loose ends get tied up before the end?

The answer to both questions is YES!

I would never leave readers hanging about everything. But along with this central story is another story arc. This one is about the conditions in the Highlands. There are a couple of small scenes about a group that would like to take over Grant castle and put an end to Alex Grant’s reign as the strongest swordsman in the Highlands. This theme will carry into the next novel, and probably the one after that, too.

One of my favorite story arcs settled around the Battle of Largs in 1263 in Ayr. This theme carried through Love Letters from Largs, Journey to the Highlands, and Highland Sparks. I’m plotting a similar arc twenty years later, but while the Battle of Largs was a true battle in Scottish history, this one is entirely fictional. I’ve created my own situation between rival clans and clan wars, a prominent theme in any Scottish story set in medieval times. The clans fought all the time.

So there is a bit of a cliffhanger because of the mounting tensions in the Highlands, but I will answer all questions about the central hero/heroine.

I guess that seems to be the way in my world in the Highlands.

I hope you enjoy my world!
